WOMEN AND NATIONAL DEFENCE.
(To the Editor.) Sir > —I saw in last Wednesday's "Star" an article by "Rangatira" on the defence of our country, in which surprise was expressed that the women of New Zealand did not lend their support to this most important object. Every thinking person must approve of the project to train all our boys and young'men, so that they would be able effectively to defend their country and their homes, if the necessity arose, which seems not improbable. Women generally would be glad to help the movement ~y every means in their power; for instance, by subscribing to the defence fund, by being present at special parades and reviews" and in any other way that might be advisable. Perhaps the defence authorities might suggest some means by which the co-operation of the women could be secured in this important and patriotic cause, so that training of our youths for defence might .be made universally popular; it is generally conceded that when women take up a subject heartily, its success is assured.—l am, etc., PATFJA.
