THE DUTY ON BISCUITS.

* (To the Editor.) Sir, —The letter of "Dumbfounded" in yesterday's " Star " is", I must say, "childlike and bland." I had no idea until I saw his letter that the outrageous duty of 2d per lb was levied on imported biscuits. I sincerely trust that in the promised tariff revison this important matter will receive attention, and, at least, Id per lb will be knocked off the present duty. If the, New Zealand biscuit makers cannot compete with the Old Country under these conditions, au that 1 can say is, in vulgar parlance, let them rip.—l am, etc., REASONABLE.
