LANCASTRIAN MEMORIAL TO THE LATE PREMIER.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Some twelve months ago or more, shortly after the death of our late lamented Premier, a meeting of Lancashire folk was advertised to be held in the Chamber of Commerce to consider the erecting of some memorial to that grerit Lancastrian, "Our Dick." It was decided to have a slab of greenstone, with lettering in bronze, so as to be almost imperishable, placed by permission of the vicar in St. Matthew's Church. A collection was taken up in the room, and subscriptions to be sent in to Dr Stopford, who was one of the committee appointed to carry out the scheme. Since receiving an acknowledgment of my mite I have heard no more of the affair. As time rolled on, I thought they are waiting for the Besses Band to be at the unveiling ceremony, but they passed through. Then I thought they are waiting to perform the ceremony on the anniversary of our countryman's death, but that, too, has passed away. And now I think it is time that those gentlemen who were appointed as a committee should give an account of what they have done, or, possibly, what they have not done, and the reason why.—Yours, etc., . - LANCASHIRE LAD.
