COMMERCIAL AGENTS.
CABLE PROM LLOYD-GEORGE.
EXPIiANATION BY THE PBEMTBR.
(By Telegrapi._Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLDsfGTOK, this day. The Premier has received the following cablegram from the President of the Board of Trade (Eight Hon. LloydGeorge)-.— '•"Your suggestions as to commercial agents in the colonies have been approved by the Government and the Imperial Parliament, and are now bein"carried out. 1 -"
"This," said, the Premier this morning, is a gratifying result of one of the suggestions made by mc at the conference, and I am certain it -will prove of great usefulness to all British eoun.'&ies where these commercial representatives are appinted. It will have the very desirable advantage, from the point of view of the trade of this colony, that it- will bring onr people into direct communication •with the Board of Trade, and in that respect from time to time information regarding the condition of trade in any part of the world which the Board of Trade, of England, obtains will be available through these commercial agents; as well as the most reliable data concerning the possibilities of trade extension in new parts. "Coming from an absolutely independent and reliable source," continued Sir Joseph Ward, "it will give every section of our traders equar" opportunity in obtaining information which, at the time, could only be got at a very great cost; and distinctly shows that the British Government and the President of th« Board of Trade are anxious to assist in the improvement, and development of trade within the Empire."
