At the meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last night, air. E. H. -potter drew attention to the confusion from the Mount Bosfcill-road fceingiso named. He suggested that it be altered to Dominion-road, pointing out 'that the calling of the road _ Mount ! BoakUl-road, led people to believe the adjacent land was in the Mount Koskill district, -whereas is was in Mount Edeu. Notice of motion was given accordingly. The control of Mount Eden was discussed at the meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening, when &.communication was received from the Mount Eden Domain Board asking for B contribution towards the improvement of the reserve, and stating that a similar request would be made to the City Council. The receipts last year only totalled £61 16/, which had already been ■'expended. The Mayor said that this brought up the advisability of the control of the reserve being vested in the Council. Mr. Hudson said that it was time that grazing on the mountain was stopped. The difference in the condition of Mount Eden and One-tree Hill (where only sheep were allowed to graze), was remarkable, and the reserve would never - "Be in good condition until cattle and horses were excluded. The Mayor re- - marked that the Borough Council was undoubtedly the right authority to control the reserve, and on his motion it was decided to defer the request, meantiime requesting the Government to take steps to vest the reserve in the Board.' A number of counterfeit half-crowns are in circulation about Auckland at the present time, the base coins being excellent imitations of the genuine article, -.!and.very difficult of detection without careful scrutiny. The weight, which .frequently betrays the spurious coin, is ■in the specimens that have come under ■ observation, very nicely gauged for " deceptive purposes. The V Undersecretary for Lands has replied, .'stating that Pukearing or Taine's Moun- * tain was sold privately in 1905 for £ 640, - and this price was considered excessive, though the Government at tne time were desirous of acquiring and reserving the Jand. Without a financial guarantee •from the local bodies concerned, he could sot recommend the purchase, as land of equal if not superior attractions in other parts could be obtained at much cheaper rates.
