BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Auckland Education Board met this morning. Present: . Messrs. G. Edgecumbe (in the chair), C. T. Barriball, J. Stallworthy. Apologies were received from the chairman (Mr. i_. J. Bagnall) for inability to be present. Appointments: The following appointments were authorised:—Sir. G. E. Large, to be teacher of Hukerenui North school; Mr. W. W. Edgerley, assistantmaster to Newmarket school; Miss £.. M. Wnitaker, assistant to Ponsonby school; Miss M. B. Jackson, to be fourth assistant, Grafton school; Mr. William R. Ellis, pupil-teacher to Waihi east school; Mr. Alexander Menzies, pupilteacher to Onehunga district high school; Miss Kathleen Gihmour, pupil-teacher to Nelson-street school. Also the following temporary appointments: Miss E. M. Coad, to temporary charge of Alexandra, school, in absence of head teacher; Miss A. A. Curham, assistant to Bussell school for six months; Miss E. M. Vialoux, to Parkhurst school for six months; Miss F. D. Clark, as temporary assistant to Onewhero school; Mr. Arthur Hannah, to temporary charge of Ahtrroa school; Miss H. H. Hardy, to temporary charge of Taotaoroa No. 1 school.
It was decided to consult the respective school committees in regard to' the following proposed appointments:— Waiorongomai (sole charge): Miss M. J. Smith, Miss E. A. Bobinson, Mr. S. J. Bishop, and Mr. D. A. B. Allison; Hoteo Valley (sole charge), Miss Jane Kane; Northcote (assistant), Misses I_. Turnbull, E. Millington, E. M. Goldsworthy, and M. A. Newbigin.
Flat Bush School r In reference to the claim of the Flat Bush School Committee (£l4 7/3) for cost of fixing tanks and spouting, it was decided that it be paid, and that in the future such works should be entrusted to one of the foremen. Te Aroha School: In answer to a letter from the Te Aroha School Committee, asking for quarterly visits from the truant officer, it was decided that the Committee be informed that it was not possible to grant their request, and that the returns of irregular attendance to be furnished monthly by the head teacher would receive prompt attention from the Truant Officer. Mount Eden School: In respect to certain letters from the Mount Eden School Committee, asking for a refund of £ 16 6/8, expended by them upon certain repairs at the school, the Board decided to decline to refund the amount, the money having been expended witnout previous authority. Finance: The following accounts were passed for payment: Administration Account, thirty-two vouchers, £265 15/2; Building Account, forty-seven voucners, £1722 4/3; Manual and Technical Account, thirty-four vouchers, £328 17/2. Resignations.—The following resignations were received: —Miss Lucy Hamilton, teacher, Puketarata School; Miss L. E. Bell, assistant, Onewhero School; Miss Ella Greenwood, assistant, Turua School; Miss H. H. Hardy, teacher, Ahuroa School. Ararimu.—lt was decided, owing to decreased attendance, to close for the present the Ararimu School. Tenders. —The tender of Mackay and Son for £228 was accepted for additions to the school building at Puriri, Thames.
