lAt the Supreme Court this morning, during the cross-examination of Captain Duder in the Calliope Dock case, hia Honor Mr, Justice Denniston drew at« tention to the undue length of time taken by cross-examining counsel ta elicit details. He pointed out that a whole twenty minutes had been taken up in leading up to one small question of detail. "It would not matter if we had eternity before us," said Ms Honor, " but "we have only time,* , and, continuing: " I am not referring to you in particular, Mr. Gully, but to the proeeed|ings Mr. Guliy ehetirfully admitted, with a smile, that he didn't mind a bit. He would not mind if the jury drew attention. " I sometimes wish they would." rejoined his Honor. " You see I have the clock right in front of mc to look at when I've nothing else to do." His Honor further suggested that a clock in front of counsel might prove beneficial. The episode concluded by the foreman of the jury intimating that the jury entirely concurred with, his Honors views.
