It may not be generally known (say 3 an exchange) that the carved posts in. the Maori meeting house at Putiki (Wanganui) are believed to be about " 300 years old. They were brought there from Rotoraa, the cradle of the Maori t carver's art, when tbe house was built , : somethirtyyearffagOj-aaid are looked on ■_ as specimens, the ; late Sir "Walter Buller having, so It is said, once offered £500 for them.
