FIRE AT MATAURA.
(.. y Telegraph.—Tress Association.) GORE, this day. A fire a.t Matauru this morning destroyed a building belonging to Mr. John Louden, situated at the corner of Den- j bigh and Bridge streets, and occupied , by Mr. H. J. Greenwood, newsvendor . (corner shop), A. J. Louden (cycle , works), J. Louden (wheelwright), and the Southland Drapery Company (dra- | pcrsl, and Moses Louden. Joseph Lees, | 1 who was sleeping on the premises, had ! a narrow escape. Nothing was saved | worth mentioning. It was a calm night, lor the damage would have been greater, ': as there were no lire preventives I available. The insurances are: J. Louj den, £100, in the Royal, on the smaller j building. The insurance on the main buildina is not ascertainable. Mr. A. J. Louden was insured for £ 100 in the >-ew Zealand, and had £10 in the Royal on stock and fittings. Mr. J. Louden was insured for £30 on stock in the I wheelwricht'? shop and £10 on tools !in the New Zealand: H. T. Greenwood, I £100 on stock in the Victoria; SouthI land Drapery Company, £ 150 on stock :-. t ;,-„,-r.™l T.e-eniinn and Globe.
