When Mr C. Charleston, of Te Kopuru. was doing some voluntary pick and shovel work the other day he had a narrow escape from death. He was under a cliff doing some work for the purpose of diverting a stream of water from the Boating Club's property when he heard a rustling among the bushes overhead, to which he gave little attention. Mr Burke, who was standing near. s_\v the danger and called to Mr Charleson to jump and the latter at once did so.
