THE SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
GISBORNE MEN FIRM. (By Telegraph.—Press Association. — GISBORNE, this day. The men at Messrs. Nelson Bros, are refusing to do a fair rate of work instead of one lamb per hour. Killing operations therefore stopped altogether this morning. The butcher* at both of the local works therefore are now all out. At a meeting of the men last night it was decided that the employers' offer to pay retrospectively whatever the Ari bitration Court awarded could not be 1 accepted, as to go back and work for 20/ would not be consistent with the sta'nl made by the Southern butchers, who had not returned except for an increase to 23/. The employers are meeting again this morning to further consider the matter. i
DUNEDIN, this day. The position at Buraside is unchanged, and the men are still out.
