Position of the Colonies. • (Bficeived 8.40 a.m.) LONDON, March 1. jEe pinancial Secretary to the Admirilty (Mr. E. Ihe Secretary of State for War (Mr. laHane) ja^ e a similar reply with repratothe\fresh meat used by the Army, md said there were no statistics with jepect to tha sources of the fresh meat lsei In reply to Mr. Rowland Hunt, Mr. Hildane stated in regard to preserved ileft that the colonies were invited to lender to meet every demand, but owing to the droughts and the consequent slortkss of stocks, colonial firms were not ihravs able to quote for delivery, and itre beaten in many cases by the price if the foreign competitor.
