Hospital Hoard.—The secretary to tlie Amkhiiid Hospital and C-.urita.le Aid lionrd wrote Unit November -8 was the day appointed by the Hospital aud Charitable Institutions Act for the election of four members to represent the Council upon tho Hospital Board for the ensuing year.-The letter was received, a special meeting being necessary before the election could proceed. Drinking Trough.—Attention was drawn by A. D. -Seabrool- to the necessity lor a

drinking trough on the roadway on the' Great North-road, opposite the old New Lynn hotel. —The matter was referred to the Streets Committee. Petitions. —Petitions were received asking for the watering of College-road and the kerblng and channelling of Dedwoodterrace. —L.oth requests were referred to the Streets Committee. Smoke Nuisance.—The Inspector of Nuisances reported that an excessive amount of smoke had been issuing from the chimneys on Messrs Bycroft's premises. It was decided, in terms of "The Fubl.c Health Act." to call upon Messrs Bycroft to abate ihe nuisance within one month, to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. Leys Institute. —The Leys institute Committee reported:—(l> Librarian. 26/10/0-, reporting donation, by T. W. Leys of .'its volumes of general literature: Received aud donor to be thanked. (2) The City Treasurer furnished statement of accounts for the half year ended 30th September, which showed the receipts, including £50 -from the Leys Trustees, to be £187 16/3, and the expenditure £1.1 17/11. leaving a credit balance of £65 18/4.—-The report was adopted. Lawrence-street.—The Streets Committee recommended that seeing the permanent level of Lawrence-street was fixed on 115 th October, I.SDO, and that a majority of the residents object to any alteration' theyeot, the request of th" petitioners to have' tne centre of the upper portion of Lawrencestreet cut down to permanent level be granted. Messrs 11. D. Abbott. C. F. (Jriflith... 11. V.. Smith, and A.' E. Skelton wrote regarding the cutting down of Law-rence-street, asking that they be allowed to make certain representations to the Streets Committee before a final decision is arrived at —The matter was referred bacK to the Streets Committee to this effect.
