PALMER STON NORTH, Thursday.

At the S.M. Court this morning two Tokomaru residents, Arthur Bloomficld and Thomas Brown, were each fined £4, and- costs £ 1 3/6, for- having killed trout by exploding dynamite in Tokom.irn stream on October 14. Brown pleaded guilty, and Bloomiield not guilty. The information was laid by an Acciiniatisa» tion Society official. ARBITRATION COURT BREACHES. WELLINGTON, Thursday. At the Arbitration Court to-day several charges were brought against clothiers of Wellington -of treadles of section 7 of the tailors' award. This section provides that all bespoke work must be done on the premises of the employer* by whom the order is taken. As a result of these proceedings, fines of. £5 each were imposed upon C. The Manawatu Rifle Association's third annual meeting opened to-day. There are 75 competitors, including many of the crack shots of the North Island. The first match, 200 yds and 500 yds, was won. by Sergt. Peirin, with a score of 68, the other leading scores being: Winslade 68, Cran 66, Jas. McKenzie, Kyle, Henry Manett, and J. Harrison 65 each. BURGLARY IN CHRISTCHUHCH. CHKIOTCHURCH, Thursday. About half-past two o'clock this morning a boarder at the Royal Hotel was somewhat startled by hearing a noise in his room, and on investigation he found a man near his bed searching his pockets. The burglar, as soon as he noticed that he had been seen, bolted out of the door and along the passage to the fire escape, at the end of the building, wi'h tlie boarder in hot pursuit. The Litter* was unable to overtak iis quarry, who descended th« ladder and made good his escape. It is stated that this was not the only room enterpd, as another "gentleman staying at the hotel was relieved of £2 10/. The Star Hotel was also visited last night by some of the light-fingered fraternity, and the rooms occupied by a number of the boarders were entered acd anything at all valuable stolen.
