TELEPHONE DISASTER.
Line Repairer's Torture. SYDNEY, November 8. An extraordinary occurrence happened at Kogarah to-day to a telephone linerepairer named Wilson. He was working at the top of a pole amidst a network of wires outside the post office, when, by some means, a can of parafiine which ho was using burst into flames, and enveloped him. He became entangled in the wires, and was hung up by the feet for three minutes. He then fell through the network, but miraculously catching the bottom wire be held to it until a ladder was hoisted. He got half-way down the ladder, and then f il heavily. His clothes were burnt off, and not a vestige of hair was left on him.
He is in the hospital and still alive. The fire destroyed the pole, and the telephone service in consequence is disorganised.
