WAIHI BAND CONTEST.

WAIHI. Thursday.

The long looked forward to initial band contest under the auspices of the Waihi brass band commences this evening. All the arrangements arc completed, and everything points to a successful issue. The contest is attracting considerable public attention, and consequently bumper attendances at the drill hall are expected. The visiting bands are representative of the province, and include two bands which had taken part in previous competitions, and gained prominent positions. The No. 2 Battalion Band (Thames) one of the visiting bands, is the oldest in the Auckland province. The Hawaki Band, which has been in existence for eight years, is also among the competitors. It was organised by Mr Williams, its present conductor, who recently returned f South Africa. In addition to gold aud silver medals for solos and quartettes, a gold medal and silver cup be presented to the drum majors of bands winning lirst ami second prizes in tns quickstep competition.
