APPEAL AGAINST DRAINAGE ASSESSMENTS.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
THAMES, this day. Mr Warden Bush to-day gave judgment in appeals v. the Waiotahi, Victoria, Vanguard, and Shortland Fiat Companies, against the assessments of the Thames Drainage Board heard at a recent sitting of the Court. The Drainage Board was represented by Mr Clendon (instructed by Mr Fred Earl), and Mr Miller represented the other parties for the purposes of hearing' judgment. His Worship reviewed the manner iv which the assessments had been made. He presumed that these, being made in ISSO, were made on gold-producing mines, and, that being so, the regulations were quite plain. The present Board was prone to make an attempt to make assessments in accordance with the regulations, but it had not taken all the factors in Regulation 10 ior its guidance. This regulation confined them to the depth, area, and gold won. ll a J lnS \° Dt t , he extent o£ the workings and the enhanced values of properties by the thnt°?h°/ ! , PUD3P ' The AVarden dld not'think that the assessments should be made on the basis of one-third for each.
