SYDNEY, April 9. •T_e secretary of the Proprietary mine —orts that there has been an inburst at the 400 ft. level, supposed to ■l T e been caused by a fall in the vicinity - jj-e _re, which is still smouldering. SL _a_ was killed, and another is begeved «> ** lost - •prirate advices state that many men _ra badly affected with gas, but no dejijls are at present available.

SYDNEY, this day. later details show that two men j__ed Farquhar and Swainston succumbed to tne effects of gas in tie Proprietary Co.'s Mine, and another jssn named Tonkin is in a serious condition. Altogether about twenty men were effected, but except the three named they ijaTe recovered. But for the prompt efforts made by a rescue party, and the bravery displayed by, them, the affair strald have been much more serious. Several rescuers were amongst those overecmis by gas. At present there are no js_catio_3 of the fire spreading.
