LATE TELEGRAMS.
(By Telegraph.— tress Association.) TRAMWAY EMPLOYEES' GRIEVANCES. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Grave discontent exists among tramway employees here over the adoption iof what is known as the "merit and deI merit" system under which motonnen | and conductors are subject to control by inspectors. The men also object because i appointments have been made by cer--1 tain inspectors, and to "private detective" to inspect the inspectors. There is no further change in the position of the schooner Aotea. The whole of her cargo having been removed, it is probably that nothing further will be done for a few days. It is now recognised that the best means of refloating the vessel will be by constructing ways, and probably a plant will be brought from Auckland for the purpose.
