NAVAL DEMONSTRATION EXPECTED.
ZtsiM of Turkey's Claim. (Received 3.33 a.m.) CONSTANTINOPLE, March 23. lie Porte bases its claim to Tabah on the contents of the Grand Vizier's telega on the occasion of the Khedive's secession in 1892. Diplomatists at the Porte erpeet the British to make a naval demonstration, probably at Smyrna. [Aimed Eyoub Pasha arrived at Cairo ifith the Sultan's finnan for the investijare of the Khedive on April 4, 1892, but the reading of it was delayed, owing to proposed changes relating to the Sinai Peninsula until April 14, by which time a satisfactory settlement was reached, chiefly owing to British influence. In the original firman (apart from the description oi Egypt as a province of Turkey) it was found that the north-eastern frontier of Egypt —a question then pending between Egypt and Turkey—was defined entirely in the Turkish interest, the Sinai Jtannsula being claimed as an immediate possession of the Ottoman Empire.]
