ECLIPSE OF THE MOON.
A total eclipse of the moon, iuvisible in New Zealand during totality, but visible during the later stages, -will occur to-morrow evening. The last contact with the penumbra -will be at 4.24 p.m., the middle of the eclipse at 7.17 p.m.! end of total eclipse at 5.6 p.m.. and last contact -fc-ith the penumbra 10.10 p.m. Iα Auckland the moon wil] rise totally eclipsed, and the eclipse will then have entered upon its greatest phase. The shallow of the. earth will gradually be cleared from the face of the moon, and the satellite -will become visible as it passes from the shadowed region. The earth's shadow at the distance of the moon is one and a-half times the lunar diameter, and thus the moon -will be eclipsed for about an hour and a-half. A partial eclipse of the. sun, discernible •svhile passing away, will occur on 23rd inst., and wifl be visible hi New Zealand from sunrise to 9.30 a.m.
