There was a large attendance, and a highly enjoyable evening was passea. A musical programme, to which Messrs J. Calder, R. L. Mcllrov W Fhilsou. H. Saunders, A. Jowitt, E 'Luks' G S Pierce, and G. H. Hardey 'contributed.' Iwas interspersed between the various tonsts which were honoured durin-* the eveaiinjc. ° SALE OP WORK AT PA.RXELL A saje of work, arranged by St. Mary's Women's Guild, was opened at St. Mary's Parish Hall, Parnell, yesterday. The sale proved very successful, and in the evening an additional attraction was provided by the performance of "Alice In tho Looking Glass," by the pupils of the Melmerly Girl s High School. The sale was continued this afternoon, and to-night the Japanese operetta "Princess Ju-Ju" will be presented. V.M.C.A. At the V.M.C.A. on Friday. Mr J. G. Jlitchell, the uewly-ai winted general secretary, and Mr T. Buddie, the hou. secretary, nho has just returned from a visit to Kaiglaud, were welcomed by the members. Dr. A. O. Knijrht, the president of the Young Men's Christian Association, presided, and there was a «ood attendance. Addresses of welcome were given by the Chairman, the Revs. R. H. Cath-erwood, E A. Kirkwood. J. Wilkins. and' Messrs C. K. Button and P. G. E-wington. Messrs Huddle and Mitchell thanked tho members for the cordial welcome they had extended them. A musical programme was through during the evening. LECTURE AT XORTHCOTE. The Gladstone Hall. Northcote, was packed on .Friday to hear Mrs Harrison Lee. the noted temperance lecturer, deliver her popular address on the "Battle of the Pars." ' Mr C. F. Tizard presided, and the united choirs of the Methodist and Presbvteriau churches saug several temperance nytnns. Mrs Harrison Lee was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for her most interesting lecture at the close.
