I An advisory committee is to be set up in Auckland in connection with the International Exhibition at Cbrist-t-hurch in November and December. 15)06. Its object is to represent the exhibition in the city, and generally to promote ; its interests from a colonial point of view. The initiative in formine the I Auckland committee is being taKen by the Mayor, Mr. Arthur M. Myers, who has convened the first meeting for Friday, September 8, in the Council Chambers at two p.m. Mr. G. S. Munro, executive commissioner, will attend the meeting and give information in kegard to the scope and prospects of the exhibition. The death occurred to-day in Dunedin of Mr. W. H. Haydon, licensee of the Central Hotel in that city, at the age of about 68 years. He was one of the oldest and best known licensed victuallers in the colony, and in the earl 3" days, when he owned and ran __ luxurious hotels the Imperial and later the Criterion in Dunedin, he was to most travellers a very famjliar figure, those houses being at their best in his time. In his later days at tbe Central he always welcomed travelling athletes on account of bis son William's interest in sport, and since the latter's death over a year ego — he was a young man who had got a fine legal practice in Mr. Solomon's offu-e — Mr. Haydon, sen.., had scarcely left his room. He never recovered from the shock. His wife—equally well known with himself—and his only other son (George) survive him. -Mr. J. H.
