A special from Fairb nks, Alask.i. un■ier date of July 0. says that a 11 "nil raging in Chena for several day- has rendered homeless from to 1000 people. The flood was caused by a wind and rainstorm that had recently swept the Tan*-Tin valley. Keyes' sawmill was swept a vp.y. and carried down the stream, b* ing lodged in front of the Noye c Mill. A large log boom broke from its moorings at the Tanana Development Company's mill, aid was car ried down strea.n, entailing a loss of several thousand dollars. Cellars were flood'-d, and in a few instances stock drowned. People were compelled to move out of their homes in the early hours sifter midnight. Homes were temporarily provided for the people, and they were not allowed to go back to their wet cabins for several days after the flood had subsided. At the time the letter was written, grave fears were entertained for the safely of the people, an epidemic being threatpnpd. The banks of The river were badly broken, and piie drivers were at work putting in bulkheads long before j the waters had subsided.
