A CHILD SUFFOCATED. MOTHER COMMITTED FOR TEIAL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) - CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A yonng woman named Caroline Hint* was committed for trial this morning on a charge of murdering a newly-born female child on September 10th. * Evidence was given that the child was alive and well at 12 o'clock, but threequarters of an hou» afterwards found dead in bed with its mother. One side of its face was flattened, the face and hps were blue, and the skin of the body was livid. Medical evidence was to the effect that death was due to suffocation not caused accidentally. Accused was allowed bail, £200 and two sureties of £100 each.
