HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
■ The ordinary meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday afternoon at the Board's offices. There were present:—Messrs G. J. Garland (chairman). A. It. Harris, J. McLeod. A. Bruce. M. Casev. J. Court, J. A. Beale, J. K. Walters, and J. Bollard. The Bell Case.—Further reports were received with regard to the complaint of 11. J. Bell re alleged delay In operating at the Hospital. Dr. Collins, senior medical officer, reported that Bell was kept iv the Hospital from a medical point of view, under observation, according to his doctor's recommendation, who instructed that he should be kept there under observation until he (the doctor) thought fit to operate. Bell was put in a medical ward. There were two postponements of the operation owing to bad light, and one because the doctor had not a necessary instrument. A further communication was received from the doctor on the subject. It was decided to accept the explanation as satisfactory. Hospital Return. —The senior medical officer reported that there were at date 106 males aud 60 females in the Hospital. Operations.—The suggestion of the honorary stafif that in the absence of three hours' notice by the surgeon in charge the senior medical officer be empowered to proceed with the operation at ills discretion, was agreed to.
