The passengers to America by the Sonoma to-morrow will include Baron j Seledenaek. I Mr Chrisp, the Gisborne barrister, is j at present in Auckland, staving at the Central Hotel. Mr. Sydney Williamson, the prominent Gisborne run-owner, is a guest at j the Northern Club. Mr. A. M. Ferguson and party spend the Christmas season at Okere fishing. They went up by the express this morning. The ''Gazette" announces the appointment of Lieut. William R. Cilles- I pie to a commission in the Huntlv Rifles. .Mrs. and Miss Mnlfroy, of Rotorua. are spending the Christmas season in Auckland, being guests at the Central Hotel. .Mr. Bragato. the Government vitieulturist, who has been in Auckland for a short time past, left the city to-day for i Nelson. Sir George Clifford, of Christclruroh, arrive' to-day in Auckland, and will lie a guest at the Auckland Club during the racing season. Miss Maud Fit/. Stubbs, the pianiste of the Slapoffski Concert Company, gives & private recital of her famous waltzes on Wednesday next. Dr. Cleveland, of Wellington, and Mr West, of Sydney, who have been staying at the Central Hotel, went to Rotorua this Tiiorninf.. Professor \Y. T. Brighani will return to Honolulu by the mailboat to-inorrovv. Professor Hiissey and his wife will also be passengers by the boat to America,. Miss 1. Vni_lar. the pianiste of the Paeroa Choral Society, has been presented by the society with a gold brooch in recognition of her valuable services during the past year. Mr Parker, manager of the Bank of New South Wales at Gisborne. is spending Christmas in Auckland. He arrived by the East Coast boat this morning and is staying at the Central Hotel. Mr J. H. Kinnear has returned from Christchureh to commence practice in dental rooms in Wyndliam-street, recently occupied by Mr G. Zinzan Harris. Mr Kinnear is thoroughly familiar with all the latest methods in dentistry. Mr. J. R. Reed, of Auckland, and Mr. V. Reed, of have gone to Rotorua. Mr. R. MeVeagh, another lawyer, went up by the same train this morning. Mr. IT. Horton and party went up to Rotorua by the exp/ess this morning for a season of fishing. The wedding of Miss Lily El Bryant, daughter of Mr. J. V. Bryant, of To Awa'mutu, and Mr. Edward H. Davys, son of Mr. H. Davys, of Cambridge, was; solemnised at Te Awamutu by the Rev. J. Irwin last week. The honeymoon wits spent at Te Aroha. Mr and Mrs Heywood Chapman, of Auckland, are to be passengers by the Waikare on her West Coast Sounds trip in January, as also are Mr and Mrs Elliott Oliver. Mr S. Morgan Ls another Aucklander who has signified his intention to make the trip. Dr. Purchas and party, including Messrs. D. and C. Nathan, left Auckland this morning by motor ear for Rotorua, and expect to reach their destination about five this evening. Dr. Purchas stays there a fortnight, and Messrs. Nathan go overland thence to Wellington. Constable Dart, of the Auckland Police Force, was among those who passed their final law examination last week. He has : already proved himself a keen and capable officer, and he doPs not intend to leave the service. At a recent meeting of the Paeroa Choral Society, the conductor. Mr H. L. Harston, was presented with nn address by the committee. The text contained an apnreeiation of his three years of excellent work for the society and an expression of rc_vet at his departure from Paeroa. Mr Harston was also presented with a silver-mounted ehonv baton by the officials of St. Paul's Church, of which lie had been organist and choirmaster. Commissioner-General Green, of the Tjouisianu Purchase Exposition, wired Consul-General Dillingham yesterday that he had arranged with the Ministry to have New Zealand properly represented at the coming Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The Commissioner arrived here to-day. and stays at the Central Hotel. He goes on to-morrow to America.
