YESTERDAY. (Before Mr T. Hutehisou, S.M.) Theft from a Friend.—Josephine Gray was fined £.">. or a month's hard labour, for the theft of a purse value 10/0. containing 9/1! in money, from Francis Edith Mason, who said sli" had been very friendly with the accused. She left .the purse in Mrs Gray's house on the machine and when" the loss was discovered she went back to the accused, who said the purse had not b-een left there. Mrs Russell, who boarded with the accused, said Mrs Gray showed her a purse similar to the missing one, after the prosecutrix had complained of her loss. (Before Mr Joshua Jackson, J.P.i Absconding from School.—A youth named ' Harry Clement... who had been arrested iv Auckland on a charge" of ahscouding while he -vas licensed out to service from the Burn bam Industrial School, was ordered to be sent back. By-law Offences. —Alfred Wakefield and William D»mpsey Were lined ../ each aud costs, the former for driving around a corner at other than a walking pace, and Dempsey for wheeling a milk dandy on the footn'ath. Threatening a Wife.-The application of Elizabeth Mary Cammick thai h"r husband, Samuel Cammick, should be bound over to keep the peace for three months was granted, the applicant stating that she had been subjected to violent language. TO-DAY'S BT.SIXF.SS. To-day's Police Court business consisted of the usual collection of holiday offences, seven first offending: drunkards being convicted and discharged: while J «.nies Kelly, alias Marsh, and Patrick Lynch, who committed a breach of the peace last night in the street, were also dealt with leniently, being allowed to go after the cub fare to the watchhouse had been paid. The magistrates were Mc-.srs .1. M. Morrau. J.P.. presiding, and J. .). O'Brien. J.P.
