The Agent-General's cable, dated London, 11th inst.. states;:—"The mutton market is firm, and speculative shipments mutton now arriving are very small. Th« average prices to-day were: Canterbury, mutton, 4id; Dunedin, Southland and W.M.E. Co. mutton. 4d; ether North Island mutton, 3Jd. River Plate mutton is in small supply, and is being firmly held. The average price to-day for River Plate mutton was 32d. There is good demand for all lamb, and the lamb market is very firm. The average prices to-day for New Zealland lamb were: Canterbury brands, s|d;. other than Canterbury, 5Jd. The beef market is quiet, supplies of American chilled beef being large. New Zealand hinds, 5Jd; fores, 4(1. The butter market is dull. Danish, 116/; Canadian, 102/; Siberian, 94/The cheese, market is very firm., The price of cheese to-day was 53/ per cwt.. Hemp: Market firm. Good fair Wellington grade on' spot to-day, £35; October and December shipments, £33. Buyers have been offering for Cocksfoot seed • more. freely. New Zealand (171b standard), 58/."
