MARIST BROTHERS' COLLEGE.

A TENDER ACCEPTED

It will be of particular interest to the Roman Catholic portion of the community especially to learn that atender for the erection of the'Marist Brothers' College at Cox's Creek, Ponsonby, has been accepted, and that work on the building will be commenced immediately. It will be remembered that about thpee years ago His Lordship the Bishop, Dr. Lenihan, made a grant to the Order of some sixteen acres of land nicely situated on the southern side of Ponson-by-road, and stretching from near the foot of Richmond-road to within a short distance of Cox's Creek in tlie vicinity of the Tramway Company's paddock—the only condition being that they (the Marist Order) would erect a suitable college thereon, and provide a thoroughly competent and up-to-date teaching staff. The local Principal of fhe Order, the Rev. Bro. Basil, thereupon communicated with the head house of the Order in France, submitting plans and tenders for .heir consideration.* It was thought that the original plans provided for the erection of too costly a building, and consequently delay was occasioned. When the 'plans were considerably modified and fresh tenders received, the French authorities approved of the scheme, and they voted a sum sufficient for the carrying out of the work. Eventually, Mr. Moody was successful in securing the .contract for the building at the price of £-.7SO. It is estimated that when the building and all the internal fittings have been completed the cost will run into something like £5000.
