MR. WOOLLEY'S VIEWS.
(By Telegraph.—Special to ''Star.") ?
CHRISTCHURCH, this day. '' In reference to the decision pf*^ Woolley not to visit New Zealand, th! "Times" of yesterday says:-! 1^ doubt a good many people will assuma that his inability to make the trin is due to the indignation that has been aroused by the letter we Pl jh! lished the other day, associating him with pro-Boer utterances, but we ara in a position to know that this isW the case. He is, of course, quite ua.' r.ware of the controversy regarding himself that has been going on hera during the past fortnight. If jj. knew of the publication of Mr Stew, art's letter he might, as a personal friend declared make a special effort to keep the agreement, if only for the purpose of answering his critics, but two or three months ago he wrote stating that owino- t 0 the pressing requirements of business he might.be compelled to aoandonhis visit. The cablegram -received by the Alliance yesterday simply confirms the fear that he would be unable to get away from America. Nothing that has been said or written in the colony has affected his plans.
