CONCILIATION BOARD.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, Monday,
The Conciliation Board was engaged to-day hearing tbe dispute between the Drivers' Union and employers. The City Council is cited as a party to the dispute, and the Board refused an application by, the City Council to be relieved- from the proceedings. the demands of the union are for an increase o<f wages to a fixed minimum, allowances for holidays, etc., and an understanding as to Sunday labour Representative master grocers asked that the grocers be struck off tlie list, as their drivers were grocers first and drivers afterwards, and should work under the grocers' award. It seemed absurd that grocers' employees should have to work under two awards. The representative of the union promised to consult his executive, and if it was agreeable he would ask the Board at next sitting to strike the grocers off. The Board then adjourned till to-morrow morning. DUNEDrN', Monday.
The Conciliation Board met to-day to' consider a 'dispute between the Metal Workers' Assistants' Union and the master ironworkers of Otago. Objection was raised that the requirements of section 98 of the Act had not been complied with. It appears that a special meeting had been held, and a resohit/ion passed, but a ballot was also taken at that meeting. The chairman ruled that the ballot must be taken subsequently, and every member of the union given an opportunity of saying whether or not he : agreed with the resolution.
