PARNELL.

'The fortnightly meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening. The Mayor, Mr H. Campbell, presided, and there were also present Crs. Briggs, Tewsley, Fitt, Gilmour, McCormick, and Cozens.

Charitable Aid.—The Secretary of the Charitable Aid Board wrote stating that three-fourths of the Council's contribution for the present year was unpaid. — The Town Clerk stated that the Board would receive the borough's Government subsidy of £140. The amount of the Council's contribution still owing was £__31.

Nightsoil.—The nightsoil contractor forwarded a satisfactory explanation as to the neglect of attention to a privy iii Scarboro' Terrace.—Cr. Petford moved that the contractors be written to informing them that the Council requires them to emptyall boxes regularly.—The motion was uaijried.

Finance.—General accounts amounting to f420 6/4 and drainage accounts amounting to £381 11/2 were passed for payment.

Bath-street.—Tho Streets Committee recommended that, in the face of the condition, of the streets lv the borough, no further expense lie incurred in kerbing and channelling Bath-street. The recommendation was adopted, and the Foreman of Works was instructed to prepare a list of the crossings requiring repair, and of the gates opening on to footpaths. Water Supply.—-The turncock reported the water consumption for the fortnight had ieen 545.000 gallons.

Dog Registration.—Mr Gardner, dog registrar, reported that 373; dogs had been registered during WOO. He was re-appoint-ed registrar for 1901 at the usual fee.

Fire Brigade.—Three tenders were received for the supply of coats for the lire brigade. The tenders were referred to a sub-committee, with power to accept the most favourable."

Hobson Bay Road. — The Foreman of Works was authorised to cut down Hobson Bay Road as decided on by the Council, at a cost of about £40.

Strand.—Cr. McCormick drew the attention of the Council to the state of the footpath at the Strand, within the city boundary.—lt was decided to request the Council to repair the path.
