Aueklanders will deeply regret to si'O in the list of "killed" in the KeitJ'ontein fight the uaitie of a young Aucklander, Corporal Rodney Devereux ,ol the Second Contingent, New Zealand Mounted 'Infantry. The laje Corporal Deve'reux, who was only 22 years of'age. was a son of the Hon. H. tie Bohun Deveretix, of the Auckland Customs. He was ,an old St. John's College boy, and was a corporal in the College Pufles. He; had been in the employ of Messrs; A. Clark and Sons, in Auckland, prior to joining the Second Contingent, Hiis relatives, had anticipated his arrival home here about Christmas, as his recent letters had stated that he had fallen behind his contingent through having lost, his horse, and that he contemplated leaving for home after serving a time in "the military police.

Yesterday Mr Devereux received the following' telegram from the Premier: "Deeply reg-ret to inform''you that Governor at Capetown calces me thut ]So. 435, Corporal Rodney Devereux, was killed in recent action at Ueitfontein. You have my sincere heartfelt sympathy, and the consolation, small though it be, that lie- died a noble death, fig-hting- for the Empire."
