STOCK SALE AT AWAKINO.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday.
The saleyards at Awakino, half-way to Auckland, erected by Mr Newton King, were opened to-day. Over 1000 head of stock were yarded, and there was, a large attendance of representative buyers from Opunake, Pihama, Stratford, Waikato, Mahenui, and intervening- districts. All were sold at the hammer, being a splendid lot. Prices were very satisfactory. Heifers, 12 to 15 months, £2 14/ to £3; steers, £3 to £3 S/. A magnificent line of 2 to 2J-year steers, from Mr W. Kelly, Awakino, was much admired, and brought £4 19/ each. A fine line of bullocks, 21 to 3 years, belonging to Messrs George and King, brought £5 14/ each; bullocks, 3J to 4i years, £5 17/6 to £7 10/; store cows," £3 12/ to £4. A large line of 1 to 2-year heifers, of Messrs Elliott and Bayley, brought £3 S/.
