ALLUVIAL AGAIN.

(To the Editor.)

Sir.—Am I mistaken iv writing that about twelve years ago there happened a wonderful discover}- of gold in the sandy riverbed of Waikato? Great things were promised and your contemporary wont to the (rouble of reporting on the wealth of gold that the millkms of tons of auriferous soil would turn out. iv fact, the mountains were moved, and a very small mouse came forth, showing a tail of gold which on assay proved itself indubitably to be the filings from goad English sovereigns. Though the Auckland people wore a wee bit too fly, if I remember rightly certain Christchurch people lost a few dollars over the "find." I sincerely trust history will 'nor again repeat itself.—l am, etc., ULJiyUE.
