WAINGARO.
■ A rifle match was fired at Waing.aro.on Saturday last at Mr Picken's range, between the married and single residents.' The ranges were 200, 400 and 500 yards, five shots at each range. The following are the scores:—Single: Armstrong 56, J. McCracken 53, A. D. S. Wilson *?, P. Bernet 43, H. "Wilson 40, A. Wilson 39, T. Mold 28; total 307. Married: J. K. McDonald 54, E. Pretty 50, S. L. Wilson 48.. C. Coaie, S7, T. Wilson 36, J. Trew 34, E. Hewett 32;: total 291.
Sheep shearing is in active progress in this district, but owing to tho difficulty Jn getting men it is unlikeJy that the shearing will be finished before Christmas.
The canvass for subscriptions for the purpose of building a public hall here has resulted in a sum of £150 being proftnised. A meeting of subscribers will be hsld on Friday night," when a committee will •be appointed, and tilsp'trustees, in whom the site given, by Messrs Seavill Bros, •will be vested.
