RAILWAY REFORMS.
""»' (By. Telegraph.—Press Association.)
: CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The Minister for Railways, in answer to representations made by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, states he cannot see his way a. present to reduce return tickets to less than twice single fares. The running speed of trains between stations is already as __i°"h as can be permitted with existing appliances, but as circumstances warrant the separation of the goods and passenger services, the latter will be accelerated; for obvious reasons it would be inexpedient to remove from departmental control the loading and -unloading of trucks at vessels' side. Arrangements are being made to largely increase rolling stock for the next grain season. Stoppages of express trains at Timaru and.On.maru. are necessary. The question of the o-eneral manager visiting England and of district traffic managers visiting other colonies, will be considered.
