LONDON, September 10. '. No tender has yet been accepted foj; the Pacific cable. A difficulty' has arisen respecting' Mr Salomon's successor on the CableBoard. New South Wales nominated : Mr Copeland, but Queensland desireeither Sir Henry Norman or Sir H, Tozer. The official estimate of the cost of the cable, including two maintenance steamers and all other initial expenditure, is £1,730,659. Tenderers 'undertake to irianufac.-'! ture and lay the cable;- provide and ii erect cable houses, make surveys, and : keep the cable working for 30 coh-> secutive days.
It is understood that other 'expense's; amounting to £180,000, include station buildings, staff quarters,' instruments, engineers' fees, and one maintenance ship costing £SO,OOO. These are not included in the tenders.," , y
