EATING ON UNIMPROVED VALUES.
ADOPTED BY DEVONPORT
BOROUGH COUNCIL,
•Since the passing of Act for the Rating on Unimproved Values, some thirteen districts have adox^ted that system of adjusting rates. Last night a special meeting of the Devonport Borough Council was held to discuss the question of rating on unimproved values. Mr J. C. Maeky (Mayor) moved, and Mr R. Logan, jun., seconded, '"That the Council approves of the system of rating- on unimproved values for the Borough of Devonport, and that a special committee be appointed with powers to carry out such steps as they may consider necessary to further itadoption." Messrs E. W. Alison and It. Duder were the only dissentients from the resolution, which was carried by S votes to 2.
During the past few days a petition has been in active circulation in Devonport, with the view of asking the Mayor to call a poll to test the borough as to the Rating on Unimproved Values. The petition haying been signed by over 15 per cent, of the ratepayers, the Mayor has decided to hold the poll on Wednesday, 3rd October.
