CALENDAR OF GARDEN OPERA-TIONS-NOVEMBER 10.
TO CORRESPONDENTS
Pruning Camellias (J.H.).—The best time to prune camellias is just as they are starting into growth. Of course, they are now in full growth, but for your purpose you could cut them hard back. If done at once, the sap now rising would soon cause them to put out new shoots which would very likely grow strongly during the season. Next season I do not think you would get many flowers, but the season following they should again bloom profusely. The young plant about three feet high losing its leaves does not look well. Cut it hard back, as this may help it to recover, also, mulch around the plant with well rotted manure. When lifting and transplanting it you may have cut oft' too many of the roots.
