It is feared that General White requires ammunition for the big naval guns which have up to the present proved one of the main factors in the successful defence* of Ladysmith by the British, army.

The railway from Esteourt to Ladysmith, however, is hourly expected to be re-opened, and communication reestablished with the latter town.
