ANNUAL SHEEP RETURNS.
WELLINGTON, November 22
The annual sheep returns issued from the Government Printing Office give the following returns for counties in the Auckland district. The first figures are the totals on the 30th April, 1898, and the second the increases as compared with the same date in 1897:— Mongonui, 24,293—464; Whangaroa, 5195—232; Bay of Islands, 36,019—2227; Hokianga, 12,648—1265; Rodney, 7472—4112; Wbangarei, 46,320 —2841; Otamatea, 51,786 —i 769; Hobson, 16,772 —2069; Waitemata, 37,689 — 4140; Manukau, 91,287—7930; Coromandel, 12,756—2844; Ohinemuri, 3706 —218; Raglan, 65,448—6858; Waipu, 40,701 —535; West Taupo and Kawhia, 43,942 —4499; East Taupo and Rotorua, 10.7S7 —4554; Taurang-a. 5637 —1468; Whakatane, 49,739—1301. The decreases were as follows: —Eden, 3170— 523; Thames, 6422—8"61;r Waikato, 74,948 —16.25. Thel. total number in the Avickland district on the 30th April, 1897, was 859,471, and /on the 30th April, 1898, 898,515.
