SERIOUS BLASTING ACCIDENT.
A MINER DANGEROUSLY INJURED,
THAMES, November 23,
A serious accident occurred at the Alburnia mine last night. William Connon and Joseph Trainor were working at the leading stop'e of the Sons of Freedom tunnel, where they had occasion to put in a charge. After firing it they retired to' the' shaft to fiwait the explosion of the charge. Hearing an explosion they presumed it was their own blast and returned to the hole, anxious to get back to see if the timbers of. the drive had suffered from the explosion. Connon, who led the way, had just got under the hole when the charge exploded, and both were thrown violently down. Trainor, who came off best, was first to recover himself, and finding Connon lying- helpless called for assistance. Connon was promptly conveyed to the hospital, where it was found that he had a severe gash on one side of the head, the bone being fractured. His condition is critical. There are great fears as to the sight pf his left eye.
