DETERMINED SUICIDE.

Eary on Octpber 30th Joseph Shivnan, a blacksmith, who lived .with his brother in Rutland-Street, was found lying dead on the floor of his bedroom, in a poo' of blood. The neck was swathed in a bloodstained cloth which, on being removed, disclosed a wound on the right side of the. neck and rhe region of the carotid artery. The body at this time was warm, and rigidity had not set in. , The police found under Shivnan s body a small pocket knife, with which apparently the deed was done. The body was' partly clothed in shirt and drawers, and it would appear the deed had been perpetrated in bed, as the edge of the sheet near the bed was saturated in blood.

Deceased was thirty years of age, and single. He lived with and worked with his brother, Charles Shivnan, a married man. It is stated that he had been drinking for about three weeks, and he had done very little or no work during that time.
