SIR G. GREY MEMORIAL.
A meeting of the Sir George, Grey Statue Committee was held in the City Cotmcil Chambers on Nov. Ist, Rabbi S. Goldstein presided, and there was a good attendance. The subcommittee appointed to draft a plan of action recommended:—(l) That a circular be drafted and addressed to the various public bodies, calling, attention to the movement, and asking for aid ir.. the matter of collecting subscriptions, and that a similar letter be addressed to private persons who had been associated with Sir George Grey; (2) That the public be invited to subscribe to the memorial fund at public offices and other places of business, and that the names of persons authorised to receive subscriptions be advertised in the public press; (3) That a Grey memorial day. be named r and that all the political, friendly and trade organisations be invited to take control of the proceedings, the object in view being the collection of subscriptions in aid of the fimd. The recommendations were adopted, and it was decided to affix Mr Tole's name as hon. secretary. Messrs Speight and Tole were appointed to draft the circulars. liJ was decided to place subscription lists at the offices of the mayors and! town clerks o2 local bodies, in newspaper offices and other places, andthe arrangement for collection was left with Messrs King', French, Fawcus, Nathan, and ' Smith. Messrs French and Fawcus were requested to communicate with friendly and other societies asking them to appoint delegates to meet' the committee to arraage tjie menooiial day, •
