PAEROA, Tuesday
CHURCH PARADE IN PAEROA. On Sunday last a most successful church parade of the Paeroa, Waihi, and Karangahake Volunteer Corps took place. The weather was splendid, and large crowds assembled to witness the display. The Paeroa contingent met the visitors about a mile from town, and the whole force of over 150 men in full uniform and accompanied by the Karangahake Baud, 16 strong, under Bandmaster Bestic, and the Waihi Band, 31 men, under Bandmaster J. M. Woods, marched through the town. Captain Ferguson was in command, and under him were Lieuts. Brown and McArthur (Paeroa), Lieut. Walters (Karangahake), and Lieuts. Gilmore, Wearne, and Alford (Waihi). Two pipers, Messrs D. Crawford and D. Gallic, also accompanied from Waihi. The volunteers then marched to the Criterion Theatre, where .the Rev. W. H, Wilson preached an appropriate sermon. In the afternoon -a grand promenade concert was held, the beautiful strains of the Waihi Band being .greatly admired. In the evening a sacred concert took place in the Criterion .Theatre by the Waihi Brass Band, and was largely attended. The whole function was a great success, and reflected great credit on all concerned. During the afternoon Lieut. Gilmore presented the cup won at the recent Waihi sports by Color-Sergeant Bradford's bayonet team.
