The weather is fine for the opening day's racing of the Wellington Racing Club's Spring Meeting. The attendance is large and the course is in very fair order after the recent rains.
Pistol Grip is scratched for all events.
November Handicap.—Red Lancer, 1: Whitiria, 2; Maid Marion, 3. All started. Red Lancer won comfortably by a ■ length. " Time, 1 mm 463 sec. Dividend, £3 10/.
Maiden Hack Race.— Ng'aparu, 1; Waingawa, 2; Eebounding, 3. All started but Langtry. Ngaparu won by three-quarters of a length. Time, lmin.-18|sec. Dividend, £4 IG/. The stewards decided to pay out on Ngaparu on the 'tote,' but they withheld the stakes to make further inquiry as to the mare's recent running at Carterton.
A later wire states that the dividend was withheld.
Wellington Handicap.—Coeur de Lion, 1; Target, 2; JSuamahanga, 3. All started but Pistol Grip. Time, 2min ISisec. Dividend, £7 4/.
