FILTHY GUTTERS.

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—lt would be a boon to the Ponsonby residents and others if you would kindly through your valuable paper point out to the proper authorities the deplorable manner in which they allow stagnant water to remain in some of the bye-street gutters. If these are not- kept in a more cleanly manner during the hot weather they, will furnish a good many cases of fever. A man with a powerful hose could sluice all the bye-street gutters easily in a day,and this done twice a week through the hot season would make the chances "of catching any infectious diseases much less than at present in this rather dirty city.—l am, etc.,

COLOGNE,
