CAPTAIN RUSSELL.

(By Telegraph.--Press Association.)

NAPIER, .thisiday.

Captain Russell received a hearty welcome from his constituents on Saturday night, on the occasion of a flying visit from Wellington, the first since his return from England. The Mayor formally welcomed the Leader of the Opposition, on behalf of the Borough, and Mr Beilby, representing the National Association, expressed pleasure at Captain Russell's safe return. In the course of his reply, referring to matters political, Captain Russell said the Opposition has been for a long time like men trying to roll a big stone to the top of a hill, and he believed the top of the hill was nearly reached." When the triennial scrummage came on he believed they would be successful.
